 The Mansfield community is in sorrow following a tragic event that resulted in the deaths of 40-year-old Christopher David Casler and his 9-year-old son, Oliver, in a situation that authorities are labeling a likely murder-suicide.

As reported by Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann, officers were sent out at 12:06 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, to a home located at 927 Woodville Road after a notification about two people sustaining gunshot injuries. Upon entering the residence, the officers found both the father and son present.

Oliver was promptly taken to OhioHealth, where medical personnel made urgent efforts to save him. Unfortunately, despite their interventions, he succumbed to his injuries later. Christopher Casler was declared dead at the location.

Investigation Ongoing

Chief Bammann has stated that the situation strongly suggests a murder-suicide, with indications that Christopher Casler shot his son before taking his own life. Investigators from the Mansfield Division of Police, in cooperation with the Richland County Coroner’s Office, continue to examine the case to gain a complete understanding of the events that transpired.
