HARRISBURG/MINT HILL – The corridors of Hickory Ridge Middle and High schools seem more subdued this week as word circulates regarding the death of Jarren Michael Felder, a local from Charlotte whose cheerful demeanor and well-known presence once animated those hallways.
Recognized by all as Michael, he was raised in the Harrisburg region and proudly showcased the red-and-black Raptor spirit at every opportunity.
SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU
Educators remember a considerate pupil who consistently took time to check on peers; students from his generation recall the individual who could brighten the cafeteria with humor or ease a tense atmosphere with a gentle word.
Following his graduation from Hickory Ridge High, Michael remained a familiar figure within the community, frequently seen returning to the school to visit previous teachers or attending Friday-night football games under the lights he once celebrated beneath.
While specifics regarding his passing are kept private at the request of the family, an overwhelming display of sorrow on social media has been swift and sincere. Former schoolmates have inundated group chats and alumni platforms with images—Michael in his graduation attire, Michael on the sidelines, Michael simply being himself.
On Wednesday, Hickory Ridge High School released a concise statement:
“Our Raptor family is devastated to hear of Michael Felder’s passing. He will forever be woven into the Hickory Ridge narrative. Once a Raptor, always a Raptor.”
Classmates are arranging a candlelight vigil on the school’s front lawn for early next week. Information will be communicated through the school’s official channels as it is confirmed.
To his family and numerous friends in the Harrisburg and Mint Hill areas: Charlotte embraces you tonight. Though Michael’s place in the stands may be vacant, his spirit continues to embody the red and black.
