A 15-Year-Old Arrested for Capital Murder Following Teen's Deadly Shooting at Apartment Complex in North Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 15-year-old male has been charged with capital murder following the deadly shooting of another 15-year-old, recognized as Jacob Gomez, at an apartment complex located on Bammel North Houston Road.
As per the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), deputies answered to gunfire alerts around 2:15 p.m. on Monday at 10155 Bammel N. Houston. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jacob Gomez, a Hispanic juvenile, with a gunshot injury. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Gomez was declared deceased at the scene.
Witnesses present at the complex pointed out the suspect and guided deputies to a nearby apartment, where the teen was apprehended without any further complications. He has since been processed into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Facility, facing charges of capital murder.
Authorities suspect that the two teenagers were engaged in a potential drug-related deal that turned violent. Detectives analyzed surveillance recordings and collected statements from residents in the complex, which aided in reconstructing the timeline leading up to the shooting.
Officials from the sheriff's office have confirmed that Jacob Gomez did not reside in the complex, and at this moment, there are no additional suspects being pursued.
“This is a tragic situation,” stated a representative from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. “The lives of two young individuals have been irreversibly altered in just seconds—one life lost and another now confronting the repercussions of a permanent decision.”
The incident has raised renewed alarm among community leaders and parents regarding youth access to guns and the increasing dangers associated with teenage involvement in violent or drug-related activities.
The investigation is still ongoing as detectives work to collect more evidence and collaborate with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities encourage anyone with further details about the incident to reach out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-TIPS.
