Four individuals lose their lives in the murder-suicide incident in Sugar Land–Houston, which also involves the perpetrator.
Three innocent individuals lost their lives during a deadly shooting incident that unfolded on Wednesday, stretching from Sugar Land to the southwest region of Houston, before the shooter took his own life, as reported by investigators.
Authorities have identified two of the victims as 35-year-old Hector Vasquez, who operated an auto shop in Houston, and 47-year-old Shelley Perrault, from Rosenberg. Investigators suspect that the alleged assailant, whose name has yet to be officially released, fatally shot his ex-spouse, her new boyfriend, and a bystander, before succumbing to what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The violence erupted around 12:30 p.m. in Sugar Land, specifically on the 12900 block of Dairy Ashford Road, close to Highway 90. Officers responding to reports of a collision and gunfire discovered a white SUV that had veered off the road.
Inside the vehicle, officers located Shelley Perrault suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Two witnesses rendered assistance to the police in performing lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. Perrault ultimately succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Ben Taub Hospital.
Subsequently, investigators determined that the shooting was premeditated and linked to a domestic situation involving the suspect and Perrault, rather than being a random act of violence. Authorities indicated that the suspect had followed Perrault’s vehicle before opening fire.
After the incident in Sugar Land, police alerted nearby agencies by sending out a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the suspect's gray SUV.
Approximately an hour later, around 1:30 p.m., law enforcement received a call regarding a repair shop on Fondren Road near West Orem Drive.
According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, the suspect shot and killed an unidentifed 51-year-old mechanic upon arriving at the store.
When the assailant also targeted the shop's owner, Hector Vasquez, aged 35, he allegedly began recording the incident with his phone. Vasquez was shot outside his business, Houston Elite, and subsequently died.
Shortly after, at 2:00 p.m., authorities received another report about a vehicle parked in the 8000 block of Creekbend Drive near South Gessner Road. Officers subsequently found the suspect inside the SUV, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities stated that the shootings appeared to stem from domestic violence involving the suspect and Perrault, who were believed to have had a prior relationship.
Lt. Crowson commented, "this was not a random act." "This seems to have been a deliberate series of shootings that began in Sugar Land and ended here in Houston, with the suspect and victim being acquainted."
The Houston Police Department is collaborating with the Sugar Land Police Department to investigate the incidents.
Both communities are in shock over the tragic events. Friends and clients described Vasquez, a prominent mechanic and owner of a small business, as dedicated to his family, polite, and hardworking.
Loved ones shared that Perrault was a compassionate mother and friend working to rebuild her life after leaving a long-term relationship.
One individual present at the location commented, "This was an unnecessary act of brutality that resulted in the deaths of good people." "This was unjust to them."
The police have not revealed the name of the male victim who was shot alongside Vasquez, as they are waiting to inform his family members. While they work to reconstruct the timeline of events, detectives are reviewing surveillance videos and interviewing those who saw what happened.
Officials continue to encourage anyone who possesses details about the shootings to reach out to the Sugar Land Police or the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department.
