Following police response to the L'Enfant Plaza incident, one individual is admitted to the hospital.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to an incident on Friday afternoon at L'Enfant Plaza, a major office and transit hub in downtown Washington, D.C.
Authorities said one person was brought to a local hospital after the incident, which caused a rapid emergency response in the neighborhood. The individual's condition has not yet been revealed.
Police and emergency medical personnel were seen around the square shortly after the information was received. Officers temporarily barred access to several portions of the area as first responders assessed the situation.
As of Friday night, there is still little information available, and officials have not established whether foul play was a factor in the occurrence.
An MPD official stated that "the issue is under control" and that there is no threat to the public.
Local workers and commuters were cautioned to expect minor delays and increased police presence as the investigation continues.
Authorities say further information will be released as it becomes available.
