 The community at Belfast Metropolitan College is grieving the untimely death of renowned professor Stephen O'Hanlon on October 1, 2025.

Mr. O'Hanlon was a beloved teacher and colleague who will be missed by both students and colleagues. Along with his work in education, he was a devoted husband to Geraldine, a beloved father to Stephanie, Patrick, and Katie, and a proud grandfather to Darcy, Jack, and Jacob.

The funeral arrangements have been completed by the family. Beginning on Friday, October 3, Mr. O'Hanlon will be available for visits from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be said at St. Gerard's Church, Antrim Road, on Monday, October 6 at 9:30 a.m. The last resting place will be Greencastle Cemetery.

His family said, "A quiet prayer, a silent thought, for someone unique in God's care," in their heartfelt tribute.
