A young man was killed in a brawl in Terrebonne Park, east of Montreal.

A young guy was killed Friday night after a violent altercation in the east Montreal neighborhood of Terrebonne.

A fight started at Angora Park, near Sablière Elementary School, at around nine of the clock at night. Provincial officers were called in to assist the Terrebonne cops department, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man between the ages of 18 and 20 who was seriously injured. Emergency services transported him to the hospital, where he later died from his wounds.

SQ spokesperson Camille Savoie said the incident is being investigated as a homicide. However, police have yet to identify the weapon or object used in the tragic assault.

Members of the SQ's Major Crimes Division set up a mobile command post at the location overnight to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Investigators are looking into the circumstances leading up to the deadly altercation and the reason behind it.

As of Saturday morning, no arrests had been made, and authorities say the investigation is still underway.

In a separate but perhaps connected case, police are also searching for a young man who may have been struck by a car in the same area and around the same time as the murder.

"The events are suspected to have occurred locally and around the same time as the homicide," the SQ stated. "The victim may have been injured as a result of the impact."

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the fight or the collision or who may have information that could aid in the investigation to come forward.

The public can contact the Sûreté du Québec by phoning 911 or 1-800-659-4264 to provide sensitive information.

The incident is frightening the residents of the quiet Terrebonne area. Angora Park, typically a peaceful spot frequented by families and children, was closed for the night while forensic teams investigated the grounds for clues.

"This is a really calm region — we never see anything like this," said a local. "It is scary to think that anything so horrible might happen so near a school."

As police continue their investigation, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information that may help them in their investigation.

The victim's identify has not yet been made public until family members have been informed.
