One-year-old Revon Melvin Anthony Todd of Saint Paul was killed last Saturday night after an SUV crashed off a freeway ramp in Maplewood.
The Minnesota State Patrol said the crash occurred at around 6:25 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 36 ramp leading to southbound Highway 61. Investigators say that when the black Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling fast, the driver lost control, drove off the road, and rolled into a ditch. Before the SUV came to rest upside down, it was partially submerged in one to two feet of water.
First responders pulled Baby Revon from beneath the automobile and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Four additional individuals inside the Tahoe were sent to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They included the driver, Rachale Francine Peloquin, 28, of Saint Paul, as well as a 32-year-old guy, a 6-year-old child, and a 5-year-old child.
Officers reported that alcohol was a contributing role in the crash. It is yet unknown which passengers may have been using seat belts.
The highway ramp was closed for several hours while workmen cleared the area and rebuilt the accident site. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests or charges, and the investigation is still ongoing.
