Police Respond to Worlds of Fun's Active Shooter and Firearm Threat; Park Closed

 A tumultuous scenario broke out at the Worlds of Fun amusement park on Saturday night when police responded strongly and swiftly to reports that someone was allegedly carrying a weapon.


Witnesses reported that Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers rushed in with their guns drawn and ordered patrons and employees to leave the park.


Early reports suggested that shots may have been fired, but no injuries were confirmed. The park requested that parents pick up their children as it will be closing for the evening.

At 10:50 p.m., KCPD issued an official update clarifying that no gunfire had been heard. Officers are currently investigating the source of the sound that triggered the alert.

Authorities claim that during the reaction, they also broke up a brawl between several young people, which may have contributed to the confusion.
