Authorities have charged a Rickman man in connection with the double homicide that killed two Hawkins family members on Sunday morning.
At the request of Attorney General Bryant Dunaway of the 13th Judicial District, special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Overton County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Christina Denise Hawkins (DOB: 10/04/1981) and Isaiah Thomas Hawkins (DOB: 07/14/2000). Both were discovered dead from gunshot wounds outside a residence in the 100 block of Freeman Drive in Rickman.
During the investigation, authorities concluded that Payton Wayne Nations (DOB: 08/28/1998) was the person they believed to be at fault. In the obtained warrants, Nations was charged with two counts of First Degree Murder.
Nations was located in Putnam County and captured by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Sunday night following a multi-agency manhunt. He was brought to the Overton County Jail and held on a $40 million bond.
Officials stated that the charges are merely accusations and that a nation is presumed innocent until and unless it is found guilty in a court of law.
The investigation is still ongoing.
