 Mika Immonen, the 52-year-old Finnish professional pool player affectionately referred to as "The Iceman," passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, leaving the sports world mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars. Born in Helsinki, Finland, on December 17, 1972, he established a stellar career that cemented his status as one of the best cue sport players.


Immonen's fascination with the game of pool marked the beginning of his ascent to stardom. Over time, this passion developed into a career that brought him international acclaim. Known for his ability to remain calm under pressure, which earned him the nickname "The Iceman," he rose to prominence as a fierce competitor on the global stage and was admired for both his accuracy and mental toughness.


Over the course of his multi-year career, Immonen won numerous trophies across Europe and Asia, including two U.S. Open Nine-Ball Championships (2008, 2009) and a World Nine-Ball Championship in 2001. He rose to the highest level due to his consistent skill and proficiency throughout the years, and in 2014, he was rightfully admitted into the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) Hall of Fame, which acknowledged his enormous influence and skill in the game.

Apart from his individual accomplishments, Immonen also made contributions to team contests. He regularly competed in the Mosconi Cup, representing Europe with pride and helping to create some of the most memorable moments in the competition's history.
