Following an ATV accident that occurred early on Monday, September 29, 2025, authorities have confirmed the tragic death of 55-year-old Sylacauga resident Willie F. Martin.
About two miles west of Sycamore, on Oakland Road, the collision occurred at around 2:00 a.m. According to the Highway Patrol Division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Martin struck a deer on the road while using a 2020 Yamaha YFZ450 ATV.
The ATV veered off the path and overturned after colliding with the animal. Martin suffered potentially fatal injuries after being flung from the machine. At the spot, he was pronounced dead.
No additional vehicles were involved in the collision, according to ALEA Trooper Jaylon James. As authorities continue to examine the specifics of the collision, the incident is still under investigation.
ATV operators and drivers are advised by authorities to exercise caution, particularly in the early morning and twilight hours when animals may unexpectedly show up on roads.
