In Memory of a Committed Medical Student and Up-and-Coming Oncologist Taylor Hanna SGU

 Tragically, Taylor Hanna, a bright young medical student, departed away. Her life was dedicated to teaching, research, and helping people. Her workplace, friends, and family are in grief. Taylor's sudden death has left an enormous void in the hearts of everyone who knew her.


Born in Stony Plain, Alberta, Taylor studied medicine at St. George's University School of Medicine and St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, where she earned an MD in 2026 and an MSc in 2024. Her passion for genetics, medical ethics, and cancer research drove her to pursue her dream of becoming a medical oncologist.


Taylor, a happy graduate of the bilingual BSc program at the University of Alberta ('21), was heavily interested in biomedical research during her undergraduate studies. Over the course of five years, she participated in and directed a number of activities that led to her first-author research study. Her work encompassed laboratory studies of the genetics of anomalies in peroxisome biogenesis as well as epidemiology and public health activities that addressed the cultural implications of healthcare delivery.

In addition to her academic success, Taylor was driven by a strong sense of duty and global citizenship. She constantly conveyed her desire to eventually assist Doctors Without Borders, showcasing her compassion and commitment to aiding impoverished regions.


Taylor is remembered by friends and peers as being not only smart and hardworking but also kind, kind, and very supportive. Her resolve to use research and medicine to get better motivated those around her.


Taylor's passing has grieved her friends, family, and the greater medical and academic community. She leaves behind a legacy of excellence, perseverance, and compassion, and she has a bright future ahead of her.
