Elizabeth (Betty) C. Last, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the age of 95. We regret to notify you of her passing. She found tranquility and eternal rest. Born on November 5, 1929, Elizabeth was a wonderful woman whose kindness and giving touched the lives of many. She was also a mother and a beloved friend.
Mom used to tell us to "do as I say, not as I do." If you are going to do something, do it to the highest standard! When she was a teenager, I found out that she and her best friend Dorothy would go dancing on Fridays, traveling from Silver Lake to downtown Kenosha.
In the 1950s, she was popular when she performed her harmonica at the Congress Club open mic. The bartender, Dick Derby, became a family friend for life. He even became the godfather of my newborn brother, Steven.
She was the genuine partner of our father. Despite the fact that women were rarely employed outside the home at the time, she worked very hard to provide for her six children. She worked as a waitress, bus driver, and mixologist. Zig Ziglar and Dale Carnegie were her instructors. She established her own businesses, took on leadership roles, and excelled at every job she took on. Amway, Toy Shoppers Service, and Christmas Around the World. She was asked what she was most proud of, and she said, "My six children" She was a Girl Scout and a strong fan of Shoreliners Drum & Bugle Corp.
During the Tremper football games, she was always there for Mark and Mike.
Betty loved gardening, oil painting, and playing cards like pokeno and royal rummy.
Her sons, Mark (Dai), Sherman, and Steven (Nancy) Last, as well as her twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, will grieve alongside her family and friends, as will her loyal daughters, Shiela Last-Heg (Larry) and Sherri Last-Tracy (John). The people who died before her were her mother, Bertha Bitter, siblings, Shirley, John, and Billie Bitter, grandparents, Frank and Clara Bruenning, husband, James H. Last, and son, Michael J. Last. Her memory will endure because of her unwavering spirit and her love for everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private burial will be place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Instead of flowers, we would prefer memorial donations to the Hospice Alliance or Alzheimer's Association.
May her soul rest in peace and may her love continue to inspire and lead everyone who knew her.
