Cheryl Elaine Boesel was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on I-40, and two drivers are facing charges.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that two additional drivers are facing criminal charges after Cheryl Elaine Boesel was killed in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 westbound close to NC-42 in Clayton.
Just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, a collision near Exit 312 forced authorities to halt traffic for several hours while they performed an investigation.
Troopers say Boesel was slowing down in traffic on I-40 East when she was struck from behind by a red Ford F-150 operated by Scott Faircloth. Following the incident, Faircloth swerved to the right shoulder. Soon after, the rear of Boesel's vehicle was also struck by Miriam Biviano's Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Boesel died from her injuries.
Following the crash, Biviano and Faircloth were both charged. According to troopers, Faircloth faces misdemeanor charges of failing to reduce speed and death by motor vehicle, while Biviano is accused with failing to reduce speed and driving without a license.
The crash is currently being looked into by the Highway Patrol.
