Announcement of Ben Darby Heyfield, Reason for Death: Ben Darby, a beloved colleague and accomplished soccer player, unexpectedly passes away.

The sports community in Heyfield is struggling with the tragic death of Ben Darby, also known as Darbs, who died suddenly. Ben's departure has left a huge hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him—both inside and outside of the sport—as a beloved young athlete, loyal teammate, and esteemed club member.

Ben's love for football was clear from an early age. He rose through the junior ranks with the Heyfield Football Netball Club, where his natural talent, tenacity, and passion for the game soon set him apart from the others. He is a lifetime Roo. From his early days in the juniors to his senior debut in 2022, which was a proud occasion for him, his family, and his fellow players, his commitment to the club was evident throughout his career.

Ben recently contributed significantly to the team's Reserves squad, demonstrating his skill, perseverance, and dedication. Due to his outstanding 2025 season performances, he was awarded both the League Best and Fairest and the Club Best and Fairest titles. These prestigious honors demonstrated his dependability, leadership, and influence on the field. Ben believed that weekly dedication to his team and community was more important to succeed than simply earning accolades.

Ben approached football with the same calm drive, modesty, and unwavering love for the game that he used to navigate life. Instead of bragging about his accomplishments, he let his performance speak for itself. His coworkers looked up to him because he was dependable in high-pressure circumstances, had a talent for motivating people, and set the bar high with his dedication and hard work.

The same respect that Ben received on the field was also shown off off it. According to his friends and teammates, he was a good-hearted and encouraging person who was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or just be there when needed. He won over the club and the larger Heyfield community with his loyalty and genuineness.

The club expressed in an official statement the deep sadness felt by everyone who knew Ben:

Darbs received recognition for his commitment, calm determination, and passion for our team and the game. He was a great friend and teammate who demonstrated what it meant to be a player by being there when it counted most. We send our condolences to his family, friends, and teammates during this very trying time, and his absence will be greatly felt. Darbs, rest easy. Always a Roo Boy.

One thing remains constant as the tributes keep coming in: Ben's imprint will live on in the countless lives he touched, the support he gave to younger players, and the memories cherished by his teammates and loved ones. Despite the unfortunate shortness of his tour, he left a lasting and important impression.
