Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur was involved in a car accident and was discovered dead in Rockbridge County I-81 collisions.

Virginia State Police are investigating a serious multi-vehicle crash that occurred on northbound Interstate 81 near mile marker 181 at around 5:08 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

The incident comprised two passenger cars, a medical transport van, and six tractor-trailers. Authorities say there was no patient on the truck at the time. Troopers reported multiple non-life-threatening injuries and one fatality. Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur, 36, of Shakopee, Minnesota, has been identified as the dead. The seatbelt-wearing driver died instantly after Nur's vehicle collided with several tractor-trailers in a chain-reaction pileup.

Investigators said the crash occurred during a period of heavy rain while traffic was stopped for a prior two-vehicle collision. The subsequent chain-reaction collision blocked the route, causing significant inconvenience.

Following the cancellation of a helicopter transfer due to inclement weather, the medical transport vehicle's driver was seriously hurt and transported by land to Rockbridge Community Hospital.

Route 11 was delayed by VDOT as hazardous materials specialists cleared debris and fuel leaks. On Friday, both northbound lanes were back in service around 1:00 a.m.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision's circumstances. Authorities continue to warn drivers to use caution when driving in inclement weather.
