WICHITA, KAN. — An 80-year-old Augusta woman has been taken into custody by the Wichita Police Department in relation to a tragic collision that killed two Wichita ladies. Two charges of second-degree homicide are brought against the woman.
The incident happened at the intersection of Central and Webb Road on Saturday at around 9:35 p.m. Authorities said a gray Jeep and a white BMW heading south on Webb collided with a black Chevrolet truck traveling east on Central.
Lashea Bell, 42, and her passenger, Aniah Bell, 25, both from Wichita, were inside the BMW. Aniah was taken to a nearby hospital, where she eventually passed away from her wounds, while Lashea Bell was declared dead at the spot. After receiving on-scene medical attention, the 41-year-old driver of the gray Jeep was let go.
The Chevrolet us driver was sent to a nearby hospital after suffering injuries in the collision. She was treated by an officer, and after receiving a medical clearance, she was charged with two counts of second-degree homicide and taken to the Sedgwick County Jail.
Investigators think that alcohol and speed had a part in the collision. For official charges, the case will be brought before the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.
The case has been assigned the number 25C159788 by the Wichita Police Department. Anyone with information regarding the incident is still being urged to come forward by authorities.
