A multi-vehicle collision on US Highway 290 North in Elgin claimed two lives and injured several more.

 ELGIN, Texas — Two people were killed and numerous more were injured in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of US Highway 290 North and Saratoga Farms Boulevard late Saturday night.



The Elgin Police Department reports that on August 30, 2025, at around 11:55 p.m., officers were sent to the location. One cop, who was fuelling his vehicle at a nearby QT gas station, instantly responded and assisted in rescuing many patients from automobiles involved in the collision. There were reports of two of the cars catching fire.


Robbie Carter, 66, of McDade, Texas, was one of the casualties and was declared dead at the site. Numerous injured persons were taken to nearby hospitals in Austin by emergency personnel using ambulances and helicopters. Sadly, 13-year-old Yareli Padierna of Elgin was also declared dead when they arrived at the hospital. At nearby hospitals, four more victims are still in the hospital.

To aid in the investigation, the Elgin Police Department's Command staff, Crime Scene Unit, and Crash Reconstruction Team came to the scene. Authorities continue to investigate all possible contributing circumstances in order to determine the cause of the crash.

The catastrophic effects of severe traffic accidents have been brought to light by this unfortunate incident, which has left families and the community in mourning. Authorities have promised to provide updates when new information becomes available and are still conducting their investigation.
